A television series based on Paul Verhoeven’s iconic sci-fi classic RoboCop has been officially greenlit for Prime Video, as reported by Deadline.

The project is spearheaded by Amazon MGM Studios. While whispers of a television reboot first surfaced in 2023, the production gained significant momentum in 2024 with the addition of producer James Wan (The Conjuring, Insidious) and showrunner Peter Ocko (The Office, Lodge 49).

Verhoeven’s original film premiered in 1987, introducing audiences to Alex Murphy (Peter Weller), a dedicated police officer who is transformed into a lethal cyborg after sustaining fatal injuries. The movie was both a commercial triumph and a critical darling, eventually securing its place as a cornerstone of the cyberpunk genre.

The franchise subsequently spawned several sequels and a 2014 remake starring Joel Kinnaman (The Suicide Squad). However, the reboot struggled at the box office and failed to resonate with critics.

Specific plot details and a projected release date for the upcoming RoboCop series remain under wraps.
