The concluding chapter of this reimagined 1997 classic lands on April 8, 2027. However, the release date was only part of the exciting news shared during the latest broadcast.

Game Director Naoki Hamaguchi took the stage at the recent State of Play to reveal the premiere date alongside an expansive new trailer. Square Enix also treated fans to over ten minutes of fresh gameplay footage. Combat mechanics have undergone a substantial evolution, highlighted by the debut of the FITS system. This feature ties specific combat capabilities directly to character attire—drawing clear mechanical inspiration from the outfit-based job systems seen in Final Fantasy X-2 and Lightning Returns. Additionally, the iconic Highwind airship serves as the party’s fully customizable mobile headquarters throughout the journey. In a rather quirky addition, Revelation introduces a fast-forward toggle for cutscenes, though viewing dramatic sequences at double speed proved to be a dizzying and chaotic experience.

Exploration has also been refined, allowing players to fluidly swap active party members while traversing the open world. This seamless transition directly influences quest progression; minor narrative beats and localized NPC interactions shift organically depending on who you designate as your group leader. Select characters will even feature dedicated, character-specific questlines, while devotees of the beloved tactical card game Queen’s Blood can look forward to an entirely new narrative arc centered around Red XIII.

Furthermore, a high-octane showcase at Gamescom Opening Night Live offered a glimpse at the legendary Weapons—formidable superbosses poised to deliver the most punishing combat encounters in the entire project.

Regarding how the studio intends to resolve the overarching narrative, Hamaguchi has maintained that player feedback will not alter the planned destination.
