“Odyssey” marks the best opening of Nolan’s career

Christopher Nolan’s cinematic adaptation of Homer’s “The Odyssey” has raked in $264.1 million globally during its opening weekend.

This performance stands as the most lucrative debut in Nolan’s filmography, surpassing the previous record held by 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises,” which grossed $249 million (unadjusted for inflation). Additionally, it claims the title of the third-highest-grossing premiere of 2026, trailing only “Toy Story 5” ($372.5 million) and “Super Mario: Galactic Movie” ($312 million).

Domestically, in North America, “The Odyssey” pulled in $124.5 million, while securing $139.6 million from international territories. Universal invested $250 million in production costs, with an extensive promotional campaign adding another $125 million to the budget.

The star-studded cast features Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson, among others. The project also holds the distinction of being the first film in history to be shot entirely using IMAX cameras.
