Obsession Star to Feature in New Mummy Film
Actor Michael Johnston, celebrated for his breakout performance in the hit horror flick “Obsession,” is reportedly in negotiations to join the cast of the fourth installment in “The Mummy” franchise, according to Deadline.
Specific details regarding Johnston’s character remain under wraps. He is set to join returning franchise icons Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and John Hannah. The film will be helmed by directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known for their work on “Scream” and “Ready or Not.” Universal Pictures has scheduled the theatrical release of “The Mummy 4” for October 19, 2027.
In “Obsession,” Johnston portrayed the protagonist Bear, a soft-spoken loner who makes a wish for his coworker Nikki (played by Indi Navarrete) to fall in love with him, only for the desire to spiral into a terrifying nightmare. Directed by Currie Barker, the film became a massive box-office phenomenon, earning a spot among the highest-grossing horror movies of all time, pulling in $458 million against a modest $750,000 budget.
