Against the backdrop of persistent supply shortages and climbing GPU prices, Jensen Huang has confirmed that NVIDIA is considering a return to manufacturing previous-generation silicon as a potential remedy for the ongoing market crisis.

Speculation recently surfaced suggesting that NVIDIA might be preparing to reintroduce the RTX 3060 to the market. According to unverified reports, the company allegedly instructed its manufacturing partners to restart production of the Ampere-based architecture to fill gaps in the mainstream segment and alleviate the scarcity of current-gen hardware.

During CES 2026, the NVIDIA CEO was addressed directly regarding these rumors. A journalist from Tom’s Hardware inquired whether the company was evaluating the possibility of leveraging older, more available manufacturing nodes to produce legacy cards, thereby reducing overall market pressure.

Huang acknowledged the feasibility of such a move, even suggesting that older generations could theoretically be enhanced with modern technical capabilities.

“Yes, it is possible. Depending on the generation, we could potentially bring some of them back and even integrate modern AI technologies into them. It would require significant engineering work, but it is certainly within the realm of possibility. I’ll give it some thought—it’s a solid idea.”

By leaving the door open for the return of the 30-series, Huang has hinted at a scenario where legacy models could receive software or hardware features previously reserved for the latest GPUs. This likely points toward technologies like DLSS Frame Generation, which is currently restricted to the RTX 40 and RTX 50 lineups.
