Nintendo’s Switch 2 has sustained remarkable momentum, surpassing 10 million units sold within its first six months on the market.

According to Nintendo’s second-quarter fiscal report, the company sold 10.36 million Switch 2 consoles between the system’s June 5 launch and the end of September. While Nintendo notes the pace has tapered compared with the console’s blistering opening—when it became the fastest-selling home console ever—these figures still represent an exceptionally strong performance. Put in historical perspective, the Switch 2 is moving more than twice as quickly as the original Switch did during its first six months (which sold 4.7 million units following the 2017 launch). It also outpaced the PlayStation 5’s early sales window of 7.8 million units, though the PS5’s rollout was constrained by supply issues.

Nintendo’s report also breaks down early software sales. Launch title Mario Kart World—bundled with the $499 Switch 2 package—has moved 9.57 million copies, of which roughly 8.1 million were sold as part of the bundle, indicating the vast majority of console buyers received the game. Donkey Kong Bananza, which released on July 17, has sold 3.49 million units. Total software sales for the platform during the first half of the fiscal year reached 20.62 million.

With the holiday season approaching and recent releases like Pokémon Legends Z-A, plus the high-profile arrival of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on December 4, the Switch 2 looks poised to carry strong sales into 2026. Nintendo has updated its guidance and now forecasts selling 19 million Switch 2 units by the end of March 2026.
