Switch 2 Tops 10 Million Units Sold in First Six Months
Nintendo reports that the Switch 2 has sold 10.36 million units in its opening six months on the market. According to the company’s second-quarter fiscal report, those sales cover the period from the console’s June 5 launch through the end of September.
While Nintendo notes the pace has slowed relative to the device’s explosive debut — which established it as one of the fastest-selling home consoles ever — the Switch 2 remains a robust seller. Its six‑month total more than doubles the original Switch’s performance over an equivalent period (4.7 million units in its first six months in 2017), and it outpaced the PlayStation 5’s early run (about 7.8 million in the PS5’s first six months), though that console’s early sales were hampered by supply constraints.
The report also breaks down software performance for Nintendo’s early first‑party releases. Mario Kart World — a launch title and the pack‑in for the $499 Switch 2 bundle — has moved 9.57 million copies, with 8.1 million distributed through the bundled console package. In short, nearly every new Switch 2 owner received the latest Mario racer. Donkey Kong Bananza, which arrived on July 17, has sold 3.49 million units. Total software sales for the platform in the first half of the fiscal year stand at 20.62 million.
With the holiday window approaching, and recent and upcoming releases such as Pokémon Legends Z‑A (sales not yet disclosed) and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (scheduled for December 4), Nintendo appears poised to carry this momentum into 2026. Reflecting that outlook, the company has raised its Switch 2 hardware forecast to 19 million units for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, up from a prior projection of 15 million.
