While today is dedicated to the world’s most famous plumber, his loyal companion Yoshi is seizing the spotlight with a brand-new look at his upcoming solo adventure. A fresh gameplay trailer for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book has just debuted, offering a glimpse at innovative mechanics and officially confirming a May launch window.
In this charming title, players guide Yoshi through the living pages of a sentient tome named Mr. E. The latest footage highlights the game’s “Creature Cataloging” system, which serves as a core gameplay pillar. By befriending and interacting with the book’s eccentric inhabitants, Yoshi gains specialized traversal abilities. For instance, a ring-shaped frog can accompany Yoshi, exhaling bubbles that serve as makeshift platforms. Feeding these companions different fruits can even alter the properties of their abilities, such as changing bubble size or buoyancy.
As players discover these beings, they can assign them personalized names, which Mr. E then meticulously documents in a growing encyclopedia of lore. This adds a layer of personalization and collection to the platforming experience.
Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is scheduled to arrive exclusively for the Switch 2 on May 21.
