PlayStation 6 Memory Cost Reportedly Already Exceeds PS5 Console Price, Insider Claims
Well-known tech insider KeplerL2 says the RAM and SSD (RAM + NAND) for PlayStation 6 alone now cost “more than $680.” With a little extra money, that amount would buy a PlayStation 5 Pro.
Prices for various components, including memory, keep rising. That could significantly affect both the production cost of next-generation consoles and the price consumers pay.
KeplerL2 joined a discussion about the potential production cost of PlayStation 6. Many users agreed the cost would approach $1,000. A community member who goes by PaintTinJr suggested that Sony could subsidize PlayStation 6 consoles in that case and sell them for a hypothetical $680.
KeplerL2 replied that the RAM and SSD (RAM + NAND) for PlayStation 6 currently cost “more than $680.”

PlayStation 6 will also need a CPU, a GPU and other components, so its retail price could end up well above “$680.”
In the store, the PlayStation 5 (1 TB) currently costs $649 with a disc drive and $599 without one. The PlayStation 5 Pro (2 TB) costs $899, which is $200 more than the estimated memory cost for Sony’s new console.
