New Music Friday Guide: Releases from Miley Cyrus, Carly Rae Jepsen, Riley Green, and Rosé

This week, Miley (dropping the Cyrus surname) releases her Atlantic debut Bass Persuades; Carly Rae Jepsen shares her anticipated double album Day and Night; and country star Riley Green’s fourth album, That’s Just Me, arrives, along with several other releases. Miley, Bass Persuades

Ahead of her 10th studio album, the pop star made several changes by signing a record deal with Atlantic Records and going by Miley without her former surname. While the album’s lead single and title track is a dance-pop track, second single “Let’s Get Married” slows the tempo as Miley sings about wanting to wed her fiancé Maxx Morando. The remaining 10 tracks, which include a “Bass Persuades Remix,” shift between these styles while conveying that Miley is in love and looking forward to her future. — LYNDSEY HAVENS

Carly Rae Jepsen, Day and Night

Pop artist Carly Rae Jepsen releases her eighth studio album as a two-disc set. The first disc contains daytime songs featuring varying tempos and a focus on songwriting, while the second disc consists of sundown dance-pop productions. Together, the 24 tracks comprise a one-and-a-half-hour listening experience. — L.H.

Rosé, “New Trick”

Rosé’s latest release is a pop-rock track featuring grungy, high-energy production, a shout-along chorus, and sweet vocals on the verses. While working on her upcoming second full-length album, she reunited with Amy Allen to co-write “New Trick” a few days after the Met Gala in May, though a statement notes this is not the official comeback single for the album, which is scheduled for next year. — L.H.

Freya Skye, “bad taste”

Rising pop artist Freya Skye’s latest single is an acknowledgment of poor romantic choices. As she told Billboard about the track, “‘Bad Taste’ is the first time I was a bit less serious. What meets the eye is a playful, kind of sarcastic tone that I’ve never gone into before.” She hopes the song excites fans for her next phase, adding, “I do think it will feel more elevated than anything before.” — L.H.

Kim Petras, Detour (Rare N’ Deluxe)

Nearly four months after releasing her third album, Detour, in May, Petras shares its deluxe edition led by the focus track “Autobahn,” one of four new songs. The melodic pop track serves as the most downtempo addition to the deluxe version, aligning closely with “Jeep” from the original release. — L.H.

Riley Green, That’s Just Me

Jessica Nicholson writes in Billboard’s Tracks Ranked regarding Riley Green’s new project: “he’s remained focused on the main thing: continuing to cement his reputation as a musical purveyor of timeless-feeling country songs, and a writer on many of them, in the tradition of artists such as Alan Jackson and Toby Keith.” His fourth full-length album, exploring heartbreak and the freedom accompanying it, follows Don’t Mind If I Do, which entered the top 10 on Top Country Albums last year. — L.H.

AZ Chike, No Rest for the Wicked

Nearly two years after appearing on “Peekaboo,” a track from Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy-winning album GNX, AZ Chike releases his debut solo studio album. With the South Central Los Angeles rapper working alongside a creative team including Lamar, Sounwave, Pharrell, Hit-Boy, JMSN, Terrace Martin, and Tyler, the Creator, No Rest for the Wicked functions as an introduction to an artist working within a West Coast-inspired style. — KYLE DENIS

Travis Scott, “RHYNO” (from Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album)

Travis Scott and Daft Punk member Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo have collaborated on one of the first six singles from the upcoming soundtrack for the video game Grand Theft Auto VI. The track combines Scott’s trap background with Homem-Christo’s electronic production. — K.D.
