Filmmaker Gareth Edwards will not be returning to direct the upcoming sequel to the blockbuster Jurassic World Rebirth, according to a report from Deadline.

Edwards’ departure is reportedly due to creative differences with Universal Pictures. The studio has already begun the search for his replacement. Despite the change in leadership, stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali are still expected to reprise their roles, with production currently slated to begin in 2027.

Released in August 2025, Rebirth served as a comprehensive soft reboot for both Steven Spielberg’s original Jurassic Park saga and the Jurassic World trilogy led by Chris Pratt. The film proved to be a commercial success, grossing $872 million at the global box office, though it received a mixed reception from critics, currently holding a 50% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
