New Details for GTA VI Reveal Expanded Map, NPC Variety, and Weather System
Players can look forward to a massive amount of content.
In late September, Game Informer published an article dedicated to Grand Theft Auto VI. It revealed several details about the upcoming game from Rockstar Games.
The report confirmed what many fans had already figured out: the map in GTA VI is roughly twice the size of the world in GTA V, while also being significantly denser and more detailed.
Clouds will move across the sky, and the weather system has been overhauled to be localized. For instance, rain may fall in a specific part of the state while the sun shines in another.
Surfaces will remain wet for a time after rain, and rainbows may form under specific lighting conditions. In addition, thunderstorms, strong winds, and hurricanes will be featured.

Mentioned activities include base jumping, gyms, kayaking, mini-golf, billiards, diving, street and off-road racing, visiting zoos, and riding jet skis and airboats. Players will be able to use the “RydeMe” ride-sharing service for fast travel. Heists can be completed solo or in pairs, with the option to use loud or stealth approaches.
NPCs will feature greater variety, boasting unique body types, heights, weights, skin tones, and hairstyles, while elements like wardrobes and tattoos will depend on culture and neighborhood.
The fauna will also be diverse, with more than 170 animal species expected, including 60 types of birds and over 30 land mammals. Pelicans, iguanas, flamingos, various species of sharks, turtles, jellyfish, toads, and armadillos were specifically mentioned.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Nothing has been announced about a PC version yet.
