Netflix’s Live-Action Assassin’s Creed: Ancient Rome Setting and Full Cast Revealed

Netflix Assassin's Creed Ancient Rome

The Assassin’s Creed franchise is finally venturing into the heart of Ancient Rome, though the medium might surprise longtime enthusiasts. While players have spent years petitioning for a full-scale game set during the height of the Roman Empire, the Brotherhood’s initial foray into this iconic era will instead unfold via Netflix’s upcoming live-action adaptation.

Ubisoft recently pulled back the curtain on the project, confirming that the series will be set in 64 AD. For those familiar with antiquity, that specific year is synonymous with one of history’s most devastating catastrophes: the Great Fire of Rome. The conflagration decimated nearly three-quarters of the city, consuming ten of its fourteen districts over the course of six chaotic days. In the aftermath, Emperor Nero famously redirected blame toward the city’s Christian population, sparking a wave of state-sponsored persecution.

The historical backdrop offers a masterclass in political volatility. While Nero survived multiple assassination attempts during his reign, his rule ultimately crumbled in 68 AD. Facing imminent arrest by Centurions for administrative and financial transgressions, the Emperor chose to take his own life. This era of secret agendas, shifting loyalties, and high-stakes power struggles provides the perfect landscape for a narrative centered on the eternal conflict between Assassins and Templars.

Alongside the setting confirmation, Ubisoft unveiled the primary cast. While the ensemble is now public, the specific roles—and which historical figures they will portray—remain shrouded in mystery. You can view the cast lineup below:

Veteran fans will recall that the series has visited Rome once before in 2010’s Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. However, that journey took place more than 1,400 years after the events of this new show, following Ezio Auditore as he dismantled the Borgia influence during the Renaissance. This Netflix project offers a chance to see the “Eternal City” in its prime, long before the rise of the Italian Brotherhood we know today.
