Dante’s journey is approaching its definitive conclusion. Netflix has officially confirmed that the animated adaptation of Devil May Cry will return for a third and final chapter. Showrunner Adi Shankar shared a vision for the series’ endgame in a recent press statement:

“If you’ve been tracking the episode titles, the narrative blueprint has been staring you in the face the entire time. This project was always envisioned as Dante’s own Divine Comedy—reimagined with firearms and a iconic red coat. Season 1 explored ‘Inferno,’ Season 2 navigated ‘Purgatorio,’ and the upcoming Season 3 will culminate in ‘Paradiso.’ Collectively, these entries form ‘The Force Edge Saga,’ which was meticulously designed from the start to function as a cinematic trilogy told through a serialized television format.”

Animation powerhouse Studio Mir, known for their work on The Legend of Korra and X-Men ’97, is returning to lead production. The core voice cast remains intact, with Johnny Yong Bosch (Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War) starring as Dante, supported by Robbie Daymond (Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as Vergil and Scout Taylor-Compton (The Runaways) as Lady.

Drawing inspiration from Capcom’s hyper-stylized action franchise, the series chronicles the plight of the orphaned demon hunter Dante as he battles to prevent a cataclysmic rift between the mortal and demonic planes. The narrative often weaves in biting social commentary—frequently drawing parallels to the political climate of the early 2000s. While the series has earned critical acclaim, it has also sparked heated debate among purists who take issue with creative liberties taken with the source material. Despite the discourse, viewership remains strong, with the debut season drawing 21.7 million views in 2025, followed by a solid 6.4 million for the second season since its May premiere. Capcom has explicitly credited the series for providing a significant boost to the commercial success of Devil May Cry 5, which has now eclipsed 10 million units sold.

Beyond the quality of the animation itself, Adi Shankar’s public persona has become a focal point of controversy. The inclusion of a character seemingly modeled after right-wing streamer Zack “Asmongold” Hoyt—who faced a Twitch suspension for remarks deemed xenophobic—added fuel to the fire. Shankar’s subsequent engagement with the streamer on social media has left observers puzzled; while he appeared to offer praise, he later dismissed media reports as “fake news,” leading many to speculate whether his commentary was genuine or a form of calculated trolling. Given Shankar’s history of simultaneously condemning political figures like Donald Trump while attending their events, he remains a notoriously enigmatic—and polarizing—creative force.
