The sci-fi anime film Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe is releasing on Netflix later this month. The movie came out in Japanese theaters in January before arriving in American cinemas in May. Netflix announced the streaming date and a new trailer on Tuesday.

The Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway movies adapt Hathaway’s Flash, a trilogy of light novels written by series creator Yoshiyuki Tomino between 1989 and 1990. These stories take place in the Universal Century timeline, which is the main continuity established by the original 1979 anime. Specifically, the Hathaway books are set in UC 0105, which is 26 years after Mobile Suit Gundam.

Sunrise is adapting the three novels into a movie trilogy. The first film, Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway, debuted in June 2021 and streams on Netflix. Viewers and critics welcomed the first two films, calling them a great entry point into the series.

Shukou Murase directed Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe after also helming the previous movie. Yasuyuki Muto wrote the screenplay, and Shinichirou Watanabe handled the storyboards. SZA performed the theme song, while Sunrise animated the production. The film arrives on Netflix on Aug. 31.

Sunrise has not announced a release window for the final film in the trilogy. However, fans have other projects ahead. Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO was revealed last month as a new anime set in an alternate post-apocalyptic setting where pilots fight an alien menace. The upcoming video game Mobile Suit Rogue Orbit shares that universe with gameplay reminiscent of Armored Core. Both projects are slated for 2027.

Additional upcoming projects include Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom Zero, which serves as a prequel to Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom. A live-action Gundam movie is also in development. These releases align with the recent recognition of Gundam Day as an official holiday in Japan.
