During yesterday’s traditional September 28 “Outbreak Day” celebrations, Naughty Dog connected with the passionate community surrounding The Last of Us to share major studio updates. Studio head Neil Druckmann revealed that the developer is actively pursuing two separate projects designed to expand the franchise’s universe beyond the events of Part I and Part II. Alongside these revelations came a much-anticipated status report regarding Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the ambitious sci-fi action title initially unveiled at The Game Awards nearly two years ago.
Aside from a few casting discussions shared by Druckmann in recent interviews, details about the project have remained scarce. Unfortunately, eager fans will have to wait a bit longer for a formal showcase. In a heartfelt developer blog post released yesterday, Druckmann explained that the team needs additional time to polish the experience before pulling back the curtain.
“Our team is completely laser-focused on what is shaping up to be Naughty Dog’s most ambitious endeavor to date,” Druckmann shared, addressing community curiosity about when the game will next surface. “There is a palpable sense of excitement around the studio as all the creative elements fall into place, and we are thrilled to eventually showcase Intergalactic in all its splendor. However, we need a little more time to cook. To manage expectations, we will be keeping quiet for the remainder of this year. When 2027 arrives, that approach will change—we will fully unveil Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and offer an in-depth look at Jordan’s extraordinary sci-fi journey.”
Concluding his message, Druckmann acknowledged the extended silence surrounding the project and expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering patience of the fanbase. “We are pouring our hearts into creating something truly deserving of your steadfast support,” he noted.
Alongside the update, Naughty Dog released a fresh piece of conceptual artwork for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet:
