Fans Release Remaster of Canceled Borderlands Online After 11 Years
A lost part of the Borderlands franchise is now playable for gamers.
An enthusiast known as EpicNNG has announced the release of an unofficial remaster of Borderlands Online. The MMO shooter was originally developed by the Chinese studio Shanda Games, but it was canceled before receiving a full release.
Borderlands Online has now received a second life thanks to the modding community. EpicNNG published a special video to celebrate the release of the remaster and addressed the community.
He recalled how in May 2025 he posted an announcement online, asking other enthusiasts to help him restore the Borderlands Online build:
Over a year ago, I took on a mission to make history by finding and reviving a Borderlands game that was thought to be lost forever—an exclusive Chinese MMO that never made it to a full release. Despite all the obstacles, potential legal issues, and constant setbacks… we managed to pull it off.
This version of Borderlands Online supports 4K resolution, 120 FPS, an unlocked FOV (field of view), and English localization.

The website for the fan-made Borderlands Online remaster is available via the following link. It provides instructions and answers to frequently asked questions. For example, the modders clarified that users can play offline by running the game locally on their computers.
