Director Akiva Schaffer, currently at the helm of the “Naked Gun” reboot, is developing a new feature titled “Stepsisters” for Disney. The project is set to shift the spotlight onto Cinderella’s infamous siblings, Anastasia and Drizella.
The screenplay is being penned by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who previously collaborated with Schaffer on the “Naked Gun” script. While specific plot details are being kept under wraps, the film continues Disney’s trend of exploring classic fairy tales from fresh perspectives.
The 1950 animated masterpiece remains the most definitive adaptation of the Cinderella story. More recently, Kenneth Branagh directed a 2015 live-action reimagining starring Lily James and Cate Blanchett, which saw Holliday Grainger and Sophie McShera take on the roles of the stepsisters.
