The upcoming installment, titled The Boyfriend, will function as a standalone narrative, shifting its focus to explore nuanced themes of contemporary masculinity. Details regarding the cast remain under wraps.
Premiering in September 2025, The Girlfriend was adapted from Michelle Frances’s gripping novel. It centered on the volatile power struggle between a mother and her son’s new partner, both competing for influence over his life.
The original series featured powerhouse performances from Robin Wright, Olivia Cooke, and Laurie Davidson. It garnered significant acclaim, maintaining an 87% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and proved to be a major streaming triumph, amassing more than 25 million views.
