‘Mmm Whatcha Say?’: Jason Derulo Has a Near-Fall on Stage at Summertime Ball

Jason Derulo Handles On-Stage Tumble With Professional Grace

Jason Derulo is known for his slick dance moves, but even the most seasoned performers experience the occasional hiccup. During his high-energy set at Capital’s Summertime Ball in London this past Saturday, the R&B-pop icon took a tumble on stage—only to brush it off with the poise of a true professional.

Footage circulating online captures the exact moment the singer lost his footing, slipping from a raised platform at Wembley Stadium. While the fall could have easily resulted in injury, Derulo showcased remarkable reflexes, catching himself with his hands and smoothly transitioning into a crouched position before popping back up to continue the show without missing a beat.

After a brief, self-deprecating smile directed at the crowd, the multi-platinum artist—famed for chart-toppers like “Watcha Say” and “Savage Love”—resumed his performance with unwavering charisma.

Derulo later embraced the moment on TikTok, sharing a fan-recorded clip of the incident with the playful caption: “How I fall for you every time.”

The lighthearted response is a nod to a long-standing internet myth. For over a decade, a viral hoax has falsely claimed that Derulo once took a disastrous tumble down the Met Gala stairs. Although the image used to perpetuate the rumor was debunked as a photo of an entirely different person at the Cannes Film Festival, the meme has become an annual tradition, reappearing on social media every May.

Derulo’s appearance was a highlight of the star-studded London lineup, which also featured performances by Niall Horan, Robyn, RAYE, and Calvin Harris. The singer continues to ride the momentum of his latest project, The Last Dance (Part 1), which arrived earlier this year.
