Miley Cyrus shared a photo on Instagram on Monday (Aug. 31) that teases new music while also appearing to drop “Cyrus” from her stage name.

The post shows the singer staring down the camera in a fuzzy black jacket with a bright red photo tint. “MILEY,” she wrote in her caption.

Her social media username now reads “@miley” instead of her full name.

Billboard has reached out to Cyrus’ representatives for more information.

The Grammy winner released her last album, Something Beautiful, last year, and it peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. That followed Endless Summer Vacation in 2023, an LP that featured the Billboard Hot 100-topping single “Flowers” for eight weeks.

Cyrus appeared to begin teasing her next era earlier last week when cryptic red-and-black billboards appeared with the promise of “coming soon.” That campaign started just a day or two before the death of Dolly Parton, the country music superstar and cultural icon who was also Cyrus’ godmother.

“The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share,” the Hannah Montana alum wrote on Instagram shortly after Parton died at 80 following a brief cancer battle. “Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts.”

“What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong,” Cyrus added at the time. “I have an angel by my side. I always have. One of our last conversations was about music and metamorphosis.”
