“Michael” Overtakes “Oppenheimer” to Become the Highest-Grossing Biopic in History

The biographical drama “Michael,” centered on the legendary “King of Pop” Michael Jackson, has officially shattered records to become the highest-grossing biopic in cinematic history, with global earnings reportedly reaching $977 million.

“Michael” has surpassed Christopher Nolan’s Academy Award-winning “Oppenheimer,” which previously held the title with $975 million. The film is now poised to cross the historic $1 billion threshold—a milestone that no other entry in the genre has ever achieved.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua (“The Equalizer”), the film features an acclaimed performance by the late singer’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, in the title role. In Russia, the project proved to be a massive success, grossing over 1 billion rubles. For Lionsgate, the film stands as the most lucrative project in the studio’s history. Plans for a sequel are already currently in development.
