“Michael” hits one billion rubles at the Russian box office
The biographical film depicting the life of the “King of Pop,” Michael Jackson, has officially surpassed one billion rubles at the Russian box office, according to data from the Unified Automated Information System (UAIS).
Distributed by Volga, the movie is only the third Hollywood production to hit the billion-ruble milestone following the withdrawal of major studios from the Russian market. Previously, only “Now You See Me 3” and “The Maid” had achieved similar financial success.
This week, “Michael” also secured its place as the highest-grossing musical biopic in history, surpassing the record previously held by “Bohemian Rhapsody.” The film stars Jaafar Jackson, the singer’s nephew, in the lead role, with direction provided by Antoine Fuqua (“The Equalizer”).
