“Michael” has grossed over a billion dollars at the global box office

The musical biopic Michael, a cinematic chronicle of the life of Michael Jackson, has officially surpassed the $1 billion mark in global ticket sales. The film is only the second release of 2026 to achieve this milestone and stands as the first billion-dollar blockbuster in the history of Lionsgate.

The production has shattered multiple records, emerging as the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time—surpassing Bohemian Rhapsody—and securing its place among the most lucrative biographical films in cinema history. Much of this financial triumph was fueled by robust international performance, where the movie maintained steady momentum at the box office for several months.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film features Jaafar Jackson, the singer’s nephew, who makes his compelling screen debut in the title role. Despite a polarized reception from critics, audiences have embraced the film with enthusiasm, cementing its status as one of the year’s most significant commercial triumphs.
