The film “Michael” has officially surpassed “Bohemian Rhapsody” to claim the title of the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time.
“Michael” has reached a staggering $911.9 million in global ticket sales, edging out “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which finished its run with $911 million. Domestic earnings in North America accounted for $358.6 million, while international markets contributed an impressive $553.3 million. The film also saw significant success in Russia, where it grossed over 980 million rubles.
The titular role is portrayed by Michael Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, under the direction of Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day”). For Lionsgate, this project has become the most lucrative film in the studio’s history, outperforming major franchises such as “Twilight,” “The Hunger Games,” and “John Wick.” Production on a sequel to “Michael” is already underway.
