Miami Officials Criticize GTA 6 Marketing Over Vice City Comparisons
Miami-Dade County officials have criticized Rockstar’s proposal to temporarily transform real-world Miami into Vice City to promote GTA VI.
Rockstar Games discussed a special promotional campaign for the game’s release with local authorities. The ideas included styling the metro in a Vice City aesthetic, themed manhole covers, and utilizing the Miami International Airport. Passengers could have been greeted by signs reading “Welcome to Vice City.” None of the options have been officially approved yet.
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz spoke out against the campaign. She believes that officials should consider the message sent by such advertising, given that GTA focuses on murder, robberies, carjacking, drugs, and violence against police.

We must think very seriously about the message we are sending when our own authorities promote a fictional identity built around many of those same crimes.
Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez also criticized the idea of temporarily renaming locations, including the airport, to “Vice City Airport.” In his opinion, the region should promote real Miami rather than its fictional version, which is “defined by crime and violence.”
