Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 Liberates ‘Guns of the Patriots’ From Its PS3 Isolation

Yielding to years of fan anticipation, Konami has officially confirmed the next chapter of its preservation efforts. During the latest PlayStation State of Play, the publisher unveiled Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, a compilation that finally breaks 2008’s Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots out of its long-standing hardware exclusivity on the PlayStation 3.

The upcoming bundle isn’t just focused on Snake’s final mission; it also incorporates 2010’s Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, the critically acclaimed PSP entry that explores Big Boss’s formative years. To enrich the experience, the collection features digital screenplay transcripts, a comprehensive “Master Book” for each title, and the original MGS 4 database. To round out the offerings, a digital soundtrack containing the series’ iconic themes will also be included.

Interestingly, the announcement graphic highlights Metal Gear Ghost Babel—the cult-classic Game Boy Color title—as “bonus content.” While it isn’t classified as a primary pillar of the collection, its inclusion suggests that this alternate-history handheld gem will be playable in some capacity. Further details regarding specific platform features and performance are expected in the coming months.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is slated to deploy on the PlayStation 5 on August 27.
