Made in Abyss Sequel Announced on Premiere Day of New Film
Riko and her companions will return to the big screen in another film.
The feature-length anime Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery, which continues the story of the second season, premiered in Japan on October 23. The creators announced the next film the same day. Its title, plot, and release window have not been revealed. The team may simply want to avoid spoiling how Awakening Mystery ends.
In the new film, Riko, Reg, and Nanachi leave the Village of the Hollows with Faputa and head for the seventh layer of the Abyss. Unexplored depths, new encounters, and dangers await them there. The sequel announcement came with a new poster for Awakening Mystery. It shows Srajo, one of the White Whistle holders, and her exploration squad, Hail Hex.

The anime is based on the manga by Akihito Tsukushi. Studio Kinema Citrus produced Awakening Mystery again. Director Masayuki Kojima, screenwriter Hideyuki Kurata, and composer Kevin Penkin returned for the film, while Yuka Kuroda and Kazuchika Kise handled character design.
An international premiere date for Awakening Mystery has not been announced.
