Blumhouse Interested in Danganronpa Adaptation, Documents Indicate
A U.S. Copyright Office record points to a possible Danganronpa TV series. There has been no official announcement, but the find has given fans something to talk about.
Reddit user Effective_Bee_6661 found an entry in the U.S. Copyright Office database describing an agreement between Spike Chunsoft and Blumhouse TV. Blumhouse TV is the television division of the company known for The Purge and the Five Nights at Freddy’s film adaptation.
According to the document, Spike Chunsoft and Blumhouse TV signed an option agreement related to the Danganronpa rights on December 14, 2022. The U.S. Copyright Office database registered it on June 4, 2024. That suggests Blumhouse was looking at an adaptation several years ago, but no official announcement followed. It is not known whether the company is still interested in the project or whether its plans have changed since then.

This would not be Danganronpa’s first step beyond games. The franchise already has an anime adaptation, Danganronpa: The Animation. Its creator, Kazutaka Kodaka, has also worked on other animated projects. He came up with the original story of the cyberpunk action series Akudama Drive and the original concept of Tribe Nine. It is not known whether Kodaka will be involved in a possible Blumhouse series.
