Reports say Meryl Streep and Sigourney Weaver have been cast in the new suspense film Useful Idiots (literally, “Useful Idiots”).
The story follows journalist Diane Castle (Streep), who covers New York’s high-end property market. When she probes the sale of a luxury penthouse, she exposes corrupt schemes and begins receiving menacing threats from powerful individuals.
Joseph Cedar — who co-wrote the screenplay and will direct — is attached to the project (credited for “The Oppenheimer Strategy”). No official release date has been announced. Streep recently appeared in the fifth season of Only Murders in the Building. A fantasy-horror movie featuring Weaver, titled Catch the Monster, is slated to debut in Russia around the New Year.
