Stranger Things breakout star Maya Hawke has been tapped to lead the cast of Netflix’s upcoming series, God of the Woods, according to industry insiders.
The production is based on the acclaimed novel of the same name by Liz Moore. Set deep within the Adirondack Mountains, the narrative centers on the powerful Van Laar dynasty, who are thrown into turmoil following the mysterious disappearance of 13-year-old Barbara from a summer camp. Hawke is set to portray Judy Laptak, a determined FBI investigator assigned to crack the high-stakes case.
Moore will serve as showrunner alongside Liz Hannah, best known for her work on Mindhunter. While an official premiere date remains under wraps, Hawke’s recent portfolio includes the romantic fantasy Wildcat, which secured a Grand Prix at the SXSW Film Festival. The actress is also slated to appear in the Hunger Games spin-off, Sunrise of the Reaping, before the end of the year.
