Garrus calibration calibration calibration—or rather, calibrating for someone else.

Players in the Mass Effect franchise can build romantic relationships with various characters and unlock additional scenes. However, content can sometimes surface even when players do nothing, as one of the creators of Mass Effect 3 discovered.

Mass Effect 3 lead level designer Kris Schoneberg is a fan of Garrus. During a recent interview with GamesRadar+, she shared her impressions of a romantic scene she did not expect to see, which caught her by surprise during a playthrough:

I am a die-hard Garrus fan. You can’t see it, but I have a whole Garrus altar right here. And I loaded up a save, running around the Normandy trying to reproduce a bug that I ran into, and I opened the door and those two are standing right in the doorway.

Kris then stumbled upon a scene involving her favorite, Garrus, and another woman, Tali. This storyline option becomes available if the player does not romance either Tali or Garrus.

This secret rendezvous outraged Kris Schoneberg, prompting her to demand explanations from the game’s writers:

I put the controller down, walked straight into the writers’ room, and went, ‘When? When did this happen?’ It’s very real. It’s very, very real.
