Following the conclusion of the “Multiverse Saga,” Marvel Studios will pivot its focus toward “The Mutant Saga.”
Marvel Studios appears to have solidified its strategic roadmap for the MCU for years to come. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, the studio is currently developing several mutant-centric projects, including a standalone Wolverine film. These productions are set to anchor a new era already being dubbed “The Mutant Saga” within the industry.
Plans for an X-Men franchise reboot have been an open secret for some time. The upcoming crossover event, “Avengers: Doomsday,” is expected to feature an ensemble cast from the legacy Fox-era X-Men films. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that director Jake Schreier is developing a mutant-focused feature intended to serve as a cornerstone for the phase succeeding “Avengers: Secret Wars.”
However, Richtman suggests that the studio’s ambitions extend beyond team-up narratives. A solo Wolverine project is reportedly in the works, alongside a variety of standalone films and series dedicated to other iconic mutants.
Despite these reports, the question of who will ultimately embody Wolverine remains unanswered. While Hugh Jackman reprised his role as Logan in “Deadpool & Wolverine” and is rumored to appear in “Avengers: Doomsday,” official confirmation regarding his long-term involvement has yet to be released.
There is also significant buzz surrounding a scenario where Jackman ceremoniously passes the mantle to Dafne Keen’s X-23. Speculation suggests this transition could take place during the finale of “Secret Wars,” where Jackman is rumored to serve as a central protagonist alongside Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man.
At this stage, these details remain categorized as insider reports and rumors, and should be viewed with a degree of healthy skepticism.
