Marcus Mumford Says Taylor Swift Was a “Phenomenal Houseguest” When She Borrowed His Home Studio

Marcus Mumford says Taylor Swift is always welcome back at the private studio he keeps at his English home. In a recent chat on the Table Manners podcast, the Mumford & Sons frontman described Swift as an ideal guest when she used his setup to finish parts of her album Evermore.

Mumford explained that Aaron Dessner reached out looking for a quiet U.K. recording space for a collaborator. Dessner asked if Swift could use Mumford’s home studio, and Mumford—surprised and accommodating—agreed, noting there are scarcely any truly discreet studios in London.

The musician recalled that Swift arrived near the end of the COVID lockdowns and proved to be “phenomenal” company: she cooked (and accidentally burned a few vegetables), brought an excellent-scented candle, and generally made herself at home. Mumford said she completed the latter portion of Evermore while staying there.

He also confirmed that Swift invited him to contribute vocals on one track—what fans know as “Cowboy Like Me”—which he happily did. Evermore later debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in December 2020 and held the top spot for four weeks.

Years after those sessions, Swift invited Mumford onstage during her Eras Tour to perform “Cowboy Like Me” for a stadium audience, further cementing their collaborative history.

Mumford is currently preparing the next Mumford & Sons album, Prizefighter, which—per announcements made in late October—features guest appearances from Gracie Abrams, Chris Stapleton, Gigi Perez and Hozier.
