Hilary Duff brought her four children on her recent arena tour, but she told Billboard that balancing motherhood and touring could be overwhelming, even with nannies traveling alongside them.

In a cover story for the magazine’s touring issue, published Thursday (Nov. 5), Duff discussed the family considerations behind her musical comeback. After releasing Luck … or Something, her first album in a decade, in February, the former Disney star embarked on her first tour in years.

“[We had] a really serious conversation about what our life was going to look like introducing a world tour to our family,” Duff told Billboard Director of Dance/Electronic Katie Bain, referring to herself and Matthew Koma, her husband since 2019. She said she cried “a bunch” at the thought of leaving her children for an extended period.

She also felt it was important to do “something that’s part of my soul and the only thing I’ve really known since being a child.”

The first run of shows, through North America, Europe, New Zealand and Australia, began in June and ended in late October. Duff brought her son Luca, whom she shares with ex Mike Comrie, and her daughters with Koma, Banks, Mae and Townes. “It was a really fun summer, and I never want to do it again,” she told Billboard dryly.

Her children enjoyed seeing her perform, Duff said, but being a full-time mom and a touring artist could be overwhelming. At the end of the day, “kids want their mom,” the Lizzie McGuire alum explained.

Duff is on a touring break before returning to the road in January 2027. Her dates run through late fall, with intermittent breaks.

The cover story follows the release of her Christmas EP, Holiday Things, her first set of songs since May’s (Mine), a collection of five re-recorded hits from her early catalog. Luck … or Something debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, a chart Duff has previously topped twice.
