Major Update Arrives for Capcom’s 2024 RPG Masterpiece Ahead of DLC Launch
Since its launch a couple of years ago, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has garnered favorable reviews, though its approach to fast travel has remained a polarizing subject among the community. The game utilizes a restrictive transit system, forcing players to rely on scarce, single-use items or take their chances on an oxcart—risking a monster ambush halfway to their destination. Consequently, a vast portion of the gameplay loop has traditionally involved tedious backtracking on foot.
In anticipation of the upcoming Dark Arisen expansion, Capcom has rolled out a pair of significant updates for Dragon’s Dogma 2. The latest patch introduces the Eternal Ferrystone, a long-awaited quality-of-life addition. Functioning exactly like standard Ferrystones, this item allows players to warp to any Portcrystal; the key difference is that it offers infinite uses. This is a game-changer for those weary of traversing the same terrain repeatedly. Players can secure this item relatively early in their journey by completing the “Seat of the Sovran” quest.
Furthermore, accessibility has been improved through the placement of new permanent Portcrystals in Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town, and the Volcanic Island Camp. Additionally, players will now receive an extra, placeable Portcrystal upon completing the “Monster Culling” mission.
Free Title Updates arrive for Dragon’s Dogma 2! The first update, available now, brings a host of quality-of-life improvements, including the addition of an Eternal Ferrystone and more Portcrystals. The next update arrives in August, bringing framerate and performance…

Beyond navigation fixes, the June update addresses user interface refinements, rebalanced quest rewards, adjusted loot drops, and an extensive list of bug squashes. It also introduces the “Guardian” Pawn specialization, which helps mitigate oxcart raids and encourages Pawns to be more proactive in protecting the player during camp sequences. You can review the full patch notes on the official website, alongside details for the August free update, which promises further enhancements to vocations, enemy encounters, and overall game balance.
We remain fond of Dragon’s Dogma 2 despite its unconventional design philosophy. As noted in our 2024 review, “Figuring out its quirks makes it special; reevaluating how an open-world game can play leads to discovering its joy.”
Looking ahead, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is set to receive a major expansion later this fall. In a somewhat unorthodox marketing move, the Dark Arisen DLC was revealed during a Nintendo Direct presentation that also featured a Switch 2 version—a confusing but strangely fitting announcement for a game as eccentric as this one.
