Maggie Gyllenhaal is working on a new film for Warner Bros

Following the underwhelming box-office performance of “The Bride,” director Maggie Gyllenhaal has quickly secured her next project, which will be produced under the Warner Bros. banner.

The upcoming film is an adaptation of Rachel Kushner’s acclaimed 2024 novel, “Creation Lake.” The narrative follows Sadie Smith, an American intelligence operative who embeds herself within an enigmatic eco-commune in the south of France. Her mission is to gather intelligence on the group’s charismatic leader, Bruno, but she soon finds herself becoming captivated by his ideology. The novel was recently shortlisted for the Booker Prize.

This project will mark Gyllenhaal’s third feature film, following her directorial debut “The Lost Daughter” and “The Bride.” The latter, a reimagining of the classic Frankenstein story, was released in March. It grossed $23 million worldwide and received a mixed critical reception, holding a 57% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Additionally, Gyllenhaal is set to preside over the jury for the 83rd Venice International Film Festival this autumn.
