“Mad Max” could receive a final film and a standalone series

Academy Award-winning director George Miller is currently in discussions with major Hollywood studios regarding the expansion of the “Mad Max” franchise.

According to reports from Puck, Miller aims to helm a definitive final chapter centered on Max Rockatansky, alongside the development of a television series set within the same universe. Universal, Sony, and Amazon have already expressed significant interest in these potential projects.

Previously, Miller had intended to direct “The Wasteland,” a prequel to “Fury Road” featuring Tom Hardy. Although the film reached the pre-production stage in 2017, the project stalled indefinitely due to a legal dispute involving unpaid bonuses owed to Miller by Warner Bros.

The post-apocalyptic “Mad Max” saga first hit theaters in 1979, with Mel Gibson starring in the original trilogy. The franchise also expanded in 2024 with the release of the spin-off “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” starring Anya Taylor-Joy.
