Louisiana: Ferries and Movable Bridges

While continuing our deep dive into the vibrant terrain of for the upcoming expansion, today we spotlight two transportation elements that give the state its unmistakable character: ferries and movable (draw) bridges.

Louisiana: Ferries and Movable Bridges

Louisiana’s identity is inseparable from its waterways. Meandering bayous, wide rivers and coastal passages shape the region’s infrastructure and daily life. To reflect that reality, we modelled crossings that not only connect routes but also convey the atmosphere of driving through a landscape shaped by water and industry.

Ferries

Multiple ferry services will be operational in the DLC, including routes such as Cameron–Holly Beach, Cote Blanche, and Port Fourchon — the latter serving as the crucial link to offshore oil storage and logistics. These ferry crossings provide practical route options and moments to take in the scenic surroundings. Each ferry is integrated seamlessly into the map, complete with detailed animations to ensure smooth boarding, transit and disembarkation, so your journey across the water feels natural and immersive.

Moveable Bridges

The state is also dotted with drawbridges, locks and other movable crossings that intersperse road travel with maritime activity. In locations such as Monroe, Houma and the Old River Lock, bridges open to allow river traffic to pass — creating real moments of pause and observation during your haul. These dynamic structures were designed to react realistically to marine traffic, adding authenticity and occasional delays that mirror real-world logistics.
