Lizzo Responds After Judge Dismisses Harassment and Discrimination Lawsuit

Lizzo spoke out after a federal judge dismissed one of the lawsuits against her on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

In an Instagram video posted shortly after the ruling, the artist stood silently before the camera with a thoughtful expression. Text layered over the clip stated, “Today I am relieved to announce that I have won the case against me and my touring company Big Grrrl Touring.”

“All the ridiculous claims by a wardrobe assistant who worked on tour for less than 3 weeks (including a claim they broke an acrylic nail) have been dismissed,” the text continued. “It was all so shocking because I was being sued by someone who admittedly never met me. I prayed for the truth to come out and thanks to my incredible lawyers, the truth has prevailed.”

The Grammy winner added, “The truth matters more to me than anything, and I told y’all I will continue to fight every vicious claim that has been made against me and my businesses.”

Lizzo’s post addresses the lawsuit filed in 2023 by Asha Daniels, who alleged sexual harassment alongside racial, gender, and disability discrimination. Lizzo consistently and vehemently denied these claims. Lizzo was dismissed from the case in 2024, and the latest ruling removes Big Grrrl Touring from the litigation as well.

Ron Zambrano, lead counsel for Daniels, addressed the decision in a statement shared with Billboard, saying, “In our view, the ruling appears to minimize evidence of a sexually charged work environment by assessing incidents too narrowly … rather than considering their cumulative impact. We respectfully disagree with the Court’s approach and are considering appropriate next steps.”

Lizzo still faces a separate sexual harassment and toxic workplace lawsuit brought by three former backup dancers. Attorneys for Lizzo have dismissed that action as a fabricated sob story launched by opportunists seeking a quick payday.
