Limp Bizkit Pays Tribute to Late Bassist Sam Rivers at First Concert Since His Death

Limp Bizkit honored their late co‑founder and bassist Sam Rivers during their first performance since his death, presenting a moving on‑screen tribute at Estadio Fray Nano in Mexico City on Nov. 29.

The short video displayed a photo of Rivers alongside the messages “Sam Rivers, our brother forever” and “Sam Rivers, we love you forever.” When the clip concluded, the members embraced onstage while the audience chanted Rivers’ name.

Earlier that day, drummer John Otto posted a heartfelt remembrance on Instagram, reflecting on longtime memories and describing Rivers as a constant presence in his life — a friend, mentor and “godfather” to his children. Otto said the band will honor Rivers’ memory at every show and expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans.

For the Mexico City performance, bassist Richie Buxton (aka Kid Not), who also plays with Ecca Vandal — the evening’s opening act — filled in on bass duties.

Rivers died on Oct. 18 at 48. At the time of reporting no official cause of death had been released. He had been diagnosed with liver disease in 2011, underwent a liver transplant in 2017 after stepping away from the band in 2015, and returned to Limp Bizkit in 2018.

Fred Durst likewise shared an emotional message following Rivers’ passing, calling the loss devastating and praising Rivers’ legacy as a central force in the band’s sound and spirit.

The band — including Durst, guitarist Wes Borland, DJ Lethal and Otto — issued a joint statement celebrating Rivers’ musical gifts and warm presence, saying he brought an irreplaceable heartbeat to their music and will be remembered for his enormous heart and effortless talent.
