Grammy-winning artist Lil Nas X is grieving the heartbreaking loss of his mother, Tameka Hill.
On Saturday, August 29, the 27-year-old musician took to social media to share an emotional tribute dedicated to his late mother.
“Rest in peace to the absolute greatest! I will love you forever, Mommy,” Nas shared on Instagram alongside a collection of nostalgic photographs. “This loss is truly devastating.”
At the time of publication, Hill’s age and the specific circumstances surrounding her passing remain unconfirmed. Billboard has reached out to representatives for Lil Nas X for further details.
Although the “Old Town Road” visionary shared a complex dynamic with his mother, he candidly addressed her long-standing battle with substance abuse during a 2020 interview.
“I rarely speak about my mom,” he shared with Variety at the time. “She struggles with addiction, so our bond wasn’t always the closest. Even when we tried to get her the help she needed, things didn’t quite pan out. But the affection between us never faded.”
The tragic news follows closely on the heels of major personal milestones for the performer, who recently opened up about his diagnosis with bipolar disorder and his subsequent decision to check into a rehabilitation facility for mental wellness support. Just days prior, he celebrated reaching his “10,000th day alive.”
“Tomorrow marks my 10,000th day on this earth, and I made it,” he expressed in a candid video uploaded to his Instagram Stories. “Many people don’t make it this far, but I did.”
Back in mid-June, he revealed via social media that he had spent “a few months” in treatment. Afterward, he reconnected with family in Atlanta and spent quality time with friends in Los Angeles to center himself and clear his mind. He added, “I am currently working with both a therapist and a psychiatrist, which has been immensely beneficial.”
Born Montero Hill, the artist has also navigated recent legal hurdles. In August 2025, he faced four felony counts after allegedly clashing with law enforcement officers while walking unclothed through the streets of Los Angeles. According to Variety reports, these charges are slated for dismissal upon his successful completion of a court-mandated mental health program.
