The wave of redundancies across the gaming sector shows no signs of slowing down.
Ubisoft is kicking off 2026 with a fresh round of staff reductions, formally announcing the closure of its Ubisoft Halifax studio.
Notably, this shutdown follows closely on the heels of 61 team members joining the Game & Media Workers Guild of Canada.
The union local, officially designated as “Ubisoft Workers of Canada, Halifax,” received its certification on December 18, 2025.
In an official statement, Ubisoft explained the reasoning behind the move:
“Over the last 24 months, Ubisoft has implemented extensive measures to streamline operations, enhance organizational efficiency, and reduce overhead. As part of these strategic initiatives, we have made the difficult decision to shutter our Halifax studio. This move will impact 71 employees.”
