Leonid Yarmolnik to appear in new adaptation of “Hard to Be a God”

Actor Leonid Yarmolnik has joined the cast for the upcoming series adaptation of Hard to Be a God, a collaborative project between NTV and the streaming platform Wink.

“The novella Hard to Be a God is a timeless masterpiece by the Strugatsky brothers that remains profoundly relevant today. Thirteen years ago, I starred in Aleksei German’s film as Don Rumata—a portrayal defined by the specific vision shared by German and myself. Times have evolved, and this classic narrative is being reimagined through a fresh lens. My role in this modern adaptation carries a symbolic weight: the new Rumata replaces the old, marking the beginning of a contemporary take on the story,”

— Yarmolnik remarked regarding his cameo. The actor notably donned the original Rumata costume for this production. Director Aleksei German’s 2013 cinematic interpretation of the novel previously received widespread critical acclaim.

The new adaptation features an ensemble cast including Sergey Bezrukov, Victoria Isakova, Fyodor Bondarchuk, and Nikita Kologrivy, among others. The series is directed by Dmitry Tyurin (known for Trigger). An official release date will be announced in the near future.
