Scheduled for its Early Access debut on March 12, Solasta 2 is generating significant buzz through a series of promotional vignettes. These videos feature a standout cast, including Ben Starr (renowned for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33) and Devora Wilde (the voice behind Baldur’s Gate 3’s Lae’zel). The duo recently put the game’s overhauled character creator through its paces, demonstrating the whimsical and incredibly granular customization options available to players.

While players will lead a hand-crafted party of four, Wilde and Starr portray Rickard and Deorcas Colwall, pivotal NPCs who support the protagonists throughout their journey. Building on its predecessor’s reputation for mechanical accuracy, Solasta 2 strictly adheres to the updated 2024 Dungeons & Dragons ruleset. At the start of Early Access, adventurers can choose from six distinct classes, fine-tuning everything from physical aesthetics to foundational statistics.

In a recent video released by developer Tactical Adventures, the actors were challenged to design avatars for one another. Starr reimagined Wilde—typically known for her “tough” roles—as a more diminutive and approachable figure, while Wilde experimented with Starr’s facial features and “radioactive” yellow skin tones. This playful session showcased the flexibility of the engine, particularly the “shape blending” mechanic. This tool allows for the merging of facial presets to create unique visages—a sophisticated feature notably absent in Baldur’s Gate 3, which relied on fixed head models.

The improvements extend far beyond cosmetic tweaks. Another teaser featuring the pair highlights five core pillars the team has refined: an industry-leading cast (including BG3 narrator Amelia Tyler), overhauled visual fidelity, the implementation of the latest 5th Edition revisions, a vastly expanded world, and a more immersive narrative where the player’s party is central to the plot. With such a robust foundation, Solasta 2 is positioning itself as a formidable contender for the crown of the most detailed tactical RPG on the market.
