Koei Tecmo Doubles Profit — Company Earns More on the Stock Market Than from Games Again

Koei Tecmo Holdings has revised its financial outlook for the first half of fiscal 2025 (April–September). The company now expects profits to substantially exceed prior estimates: both operating and net income are forecast to be more than double earlier projections.

The improvement reflects not only strong performance from the games division but also robust returns on the company’s financial investments. Back-catalog game sales outperformed expectations, while marketing and outsourcing expenses came in lower than anticipated. Sales figures for Ninja Gaiden 4, which was released on October 21, have not yet been incorporated into this update.

However, the decisive factor was income unrelated to game production. Koei Tecmo’s investment approach has produced returns that are comparable to, and sometimes exceed, earnings from its gaming operations. Last year the company realized roughly $116 million from strategic investments, which materially bolstered its financial results.

The full-year forecast (April 2025–March 2026) remains unchanged. Koei Tecmo is accounting for the launch of several upcoming titles — including Hyrule Warriors, Nioh 3 and Pokémon Pokopia — as well as ongoing uncertainty in the global economy and investment markets.
