After a former NBA player made a crude remark about Megan Thee Stallion on his podcast, Klay Thompson publicly defended his girlfriend and called the comment “disgusting and disturbing.” The controversy unfolded following a clip posted from the Hoopin’ N Hollerin’ podcast on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in which Jason Williams used a crude analogy to suggest a woman could derail an athlete’s season.

On the episode Williams said, “it only takes one p—y to drag a battleship across the desert,” a line that drew laughter from cohosts Patrick Beverley and Adam Ferrone. The quip appeared to reference Thompson’s recent struggles on the court after he began dating Megan earlier this summer and was subsequently benched by the Dallas Mavericks.

Thompson didn’t stay silent. In an Instagram comment defending Megan Thee Stallion, he wrote that referring to his partner with that slur was “so disgusting and disturbing,” adding that such language coming from someone who once played in the NBA was especially disappointing. He urged others to consider how they would feel if their own spouses were insulted in the same way.

Critics have long noted a tendency to blame women for the perceived underperformance of their high-profile partners — a pattern that has affected other public couples, including Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. This episode renewed scrutiny of that narrative and prompted discussions about respect and responsibility among public figures.

Beyond the backlash, Thompson and Megan appear to be thriving in their relationship. Fans observed signs that the couple may have moved in together during October, and Meg recently released the affectionate track “Lover Girl.” In a July interview with Page Six, Megan praised Thompson’s character, saying she had never dated anyone “so kind” and that he genuinely made her happy.

As the fallout from the podcast clip continued, many praised Thompson for defending his partner and called for more thoughtful conversation in sports media about how female artists and partners are discussed.
