Kingdom Come: Deliverance Update Adds 60 FPS and Ultra Quality Visuals on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

Kingdom Come Deliverance Next-Gen Upgrade Visuals

Warhorse Studios has surprised the community by launching a complimentary performance update for Kingdom Come: Deliverance on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This patch essentially ports the “Ultra Quality” PC experience to consoles, introducing a fluid 60 FPS framerate, 4K resolution upscaling, and a significant overhaul of textures and environmental assets.

Available immediately, this enhancement is free for all current owners on PlayStation and Xbox. For newcomers looking to start Henry’s journey, the title is priced at $29.99 on digital storefronts. Alongside the “Next-Gen Update” trailer showcasing these technical leaps, Warhorse revealed that the original game has now surpassed 10 million copies sold—more than doubling the 4 million units moved by its celebrated successor, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.

First Impressions: A Faithful Technical Evolution

The visual fidelity of Kingdom Come: Deliverance has never been sharper. While I was a massive proponent of the sequel last year, I hadn’t spent significant time with the original. Diving into this updated version now, I’m struck by how much I’m enjoying the experience. What stands out most is Warhorse’s restraint; this isn’t a radical reimagining that loses the soul of the 2018 release. It remains true to the original artistic direction while becoming significantly more palatable for modern displays.

This represents the gold standard for console enhancements: prioritize performance, sharpen the resolution, and apply a light touch to the assets. It maintains the game’s character—even the occasional “wonky” animation—preserving the experience exactly as fans fell in love with it half a decade ago, just without the technical hurdles of the previous generation. It’s about experiencing the game through a clearer lens rather than changing what made it special.

I find it similar to my preference for the original Dragon Ball Z over the modernized Kai edit. To truly appreciate a masterpiece, you often want to see it in its original context, filler and all. Completing Henry’s first adventure on PS5 feels like the definitive way to bridge that history.

If you want to know why I held the sequel in such high regard, check out my review of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. You can also revisit Game Informer’s original Kingdom Come: Deliverance review from 2018 to see how it all began.
