Following the successful IMAX premiere of Princess Mononoke last March, another cherished masterpiece from Studio Ghibli and visionary director Hayao Miyazaki is set to receive the premium large-format treatment. A stunning 4K restoration of Kiki’s Delivery Service will debut exclusively in IMAX theaters across North America starting March 13 for a strictly limited engagement.

Adapted from the 1985 novel by Eiko Kadono, the story follows a young witch named Kiki who ventures away from home as part of a traditional year of independence. Accompanied by her cynical talking cat, Jiji, she settles in a seaside town to establish an aerial courier business. Beyond its magical premise, the film remains a deeply resonant coming-of-age tale, exploring the nuances of adolescent isolation, the weight of self-reliance, and the struggle to overcome creative burnout.

The IMAX announcement is paired with a breathtaking new theatrical poster, showcased above. The artwork features original concept illustrations by Yoshifumi Kondo, the film’s legendary animation director and the acclaimed filmmaker behind Whisper of the Heart.

While the annual Studio Ghibli Fest provides regular opportunities to see these films on the big screen, this 4K IMAX event offers a rare level of visual and auditory immersion. Tickets are currently on sale for the one-week run, which will include screenings in the original Japanese with English subtitles as well as the fan-favorite English dub.
