Acclaimed musical theater performer Carla Guevara-Laforteza has offered an affectionate glimpse into how her daughter, KATSEYE frontwoman Sophia Laforteza, is spending her temporary hiatus from the spotlight—focusing entirely on rest, rejuvenation, and self-care.

During a candid feature published by Vogue Philippines, Guevara-Laforteza reflected on her daughter’s ongoing reprieve, sharing that the burgeoning pop sensation has embraced grounded, creative pastimes to rebuild her mental stamina away from grueling performance schedules.

“At present, Sophia is on hiatus,” Guevara-Laforteza explained. “She goes to Disneyland every day; she’s baking, she’s painting. She’s literally doing everything to get mentally well.”

Prioritizing Wellness and Longevity

HYBE and Geffen Records initially confirmed Laforteza’s hiatus on August 7, noting that the singer would step back from promotional responsibilities to attend to her physical and psychological health. Label representatives disclosed that following consultations with medical specialists, Laforteza was advised to undergo an extended period of therapeutic recovery, with a formal health reassessment scheduled for September.

Shortly after the announcement, the vocalist turned to her personal Instagram story to address her followers directly. While she acknowledged the emotional difficulty of stepping away during a high-momentum phase of the group’s campaign, she underlined that sustained artistic longevity requires putting health above all else.

Autonomy and Parental Encouragement

For Guevara-Laforteza, maternal support centers on granting her children the latitude to author their own trajectories. Reflecting on parenthood with Vogue Philippines, she highlighted the importance of allowing each child the independence to define their personal fulfillment.

“I realized that my children, they need to find their own destiny,” she remarked, describing the transition from guiding her daughter toward musical theater to supporting her breakout role in international pop.

KATSEYE’s Continued Momentum

Sophia rose to prominence as the leader of KATSEYE after outperforming contestants in the high-profile talent competition The Debut: Dream Academy, joining bandmates Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, Yoonchae Jeung, and Manon Bannerman. The sextet has rapidly cemented their status as a global phenomenon, recently securing the summit of the Billboard 200 with their breakthrough EP WILD, spearheaded by chart-topping entries “Pinky Up” and “Animal.”

Laforteza’s temporary sabbatical follows a similar wellness break taken earlier in the year by bandmate Manon. Amid these individual intervals for rest, the active members continue their promotional endeavors while maintaining collective solidarity and support for their teammates.
